Heat plan in force nationwide on Monday: tropical temperatures expected in the Netherlands

The national heat plan will apply to the whole of the Netherlands from 10:00 (CEST) on Monday morning due to the high temperatures, the RIVM reports. It is already in effect in Noord-Brabant and Limburg today.
Tropical temperatures are already being reached in the southern provinces today. These are expected to be reached throughout the country tomorrow. The heat may continue until Wednesday. Tuesday and Wednesday will be the hottest days, with temperatures possibly reaching 37 degrees in the south and east. The KNMI will issue a code yellow if temperatures exceed 35 degrees.
The introduction of the heat plan is intended as a warning to take the unusual circumstances into account. People are advised to stay out of the heat and to drink enough water. The warning applies in particular to vulnerable people, especially the elderly. Healthcare workers and informal carers are called upon to pay extra attention to the people they care for.
For example, the elderly are less likely to feel thirsty and must therefore pay close attention to drinking enough. People with chronic conditions, the homeless and babies are also more vulnerable at high temperatures.
But people in good health are also advised to take the temperature into account. For example, heavy physical activities are discouraged to prevent overheating and dehydration.
